Bone Loss Occurs Immediately After Tooth Loss

Bone loss in the jaw bone is common when one or more teeth have been lost due to injury, decay, or trauma. Without the tooth in place to stimulate the jaw bone, the bone around the missing tooth will begin to deteriorate.

Are You A Good Candidate for a Dental Bone Graft in               Las Vegas & Henderson?

Many patients of Dr. David J. Trylovich, Dr. Ryan S. Gifford, Dr. Brian P. Mantor, and Dr. Gary D. Goaslind who have experienced bone loss have turned to dental bone graft procedures to address this need in Las Vegas, NV. Not only is a dental bone graft a safe treatment option for the right candidates, but it can have many benefits, including an improved appearance if bone loss has affected the shape of the jaw.

Bone Grafting Treatments Can Solve Tough Bone Loss Issues

Bone loss is a common problem, especially for people who have lost one or more teeth. Because the teeth essentially “massage” the bones, when the teeth are missing, the bone loses its robust nature and begins to deteriorate. Eventually, it may deteriorate to the point where dental implant surgery to replace the lost teeth is impossible. That is when a bone graft for a dental implant can be used as a practical method to prepare the site.

The three types of bone grafts for dental implant procedures are autogenous, allograft, and xenograft. An autogenous bone graft takes a piece of bone from the body of the patient. An allograft uses bone from a cadaver. Although this is a safe method, the bone may be rejected by the patient. The final type of bone graft for dental implants is the xenograft, whereby the bone material is taken from a non-human source, such as a bovine. Our doctors will explain which they feel is best suited for you.

What You Can Expect during a Dental Bone Graft in Las Vegas

During a dental bone graft, you will be anesthetized locally. Depending upon the type of bone graft you are receiving, you may only have one incision site. Any bone that has been grafted will be attached to the bone of the jaw using titanium screws. The incision is then closed with sutures. You can expect full healing to occur within about six to nine months, after which the dental implant surgery can take place.

Though not everyone can undergo a dental bone graft, it may be the right procedure for you. Please contact our office today to make an appointment to discuss your personal oral health needs with Dr. Trylovich, Dr. Gifford, Dr. Mantor, and Dr. Goaslind.
